We are thrilled to announce that a group of students from UC Santa Barbara’s Data Science Capstone, in collaboration with researchers from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD, have won the Best Poster Award at the Ocean Observing in California conference. Their project, which leverages eDNA, visual sightings, and acoustic data from 2004 to 2022, culminated in the development of an innovative R Shiny App. This interactive tool consolidates CalCOFI marine mammal observations across space and time, providing researchers and technical users with a powerful platform to explore, visualize, and gain insights into marine ecosystem data.
